For example, a respiratory assistive device cannot be plugged into the electrical power socket of an aircraft. However, certain airlines allow passengers to carry the device in a carry case.

Portable Oxygen Concentrators are approved by the FAA for on board use. It is required that the device meet certain acceptance criteria and the label of the POC reflects the requirements.

The maximum operating time for a POC is based on the expected flight duration. This is based on the aircraft’s scheduled flight time, traffic delays, and weather conditions. Generally, the expected total operating time for a 4-hour flight is two hours more than the actual flight time.

JetBlue Airways does not offer in-seat electrical power for POCs. In addition, they require that customers provide an extra three hours of battery life in the event of a delay.
